How to Measure your Space

Hi, I’m back!  We are often asked for help with measuring the space, in which the sliding doors are going to be fitted.  This is a straightforward tape-measure job.  So here goes with today’s blog… How to Measure the space for Sliding Wardrobe Doors.

Not everyone has the ideal space for their sliding wardrobe doors to fit into.  In an ideal situation, the doors would run from wall to wall.

However, some bedrooms are lacking the space, or there is a doorway or window in the way.  In this case you can run your doors from one wall to an end panel (which come in an array of colours, to match your doors).

We recommend that you measure the height in 3 different places – the reason being, often your ceiling and floor will not run parallel to each other.  Your trackset will allow for a difference in the heights, up to 15mm adjustment.  Anything over this, we can recommend Spacer Blocks (for minimal adjustment) or Opening Height Reducers for more significant gaps.  As always, we are happy to help with technical questions, either via phone or email.

For wall-to-wall installations, you should provide us with the widest width of your opening.  We will make the correct door and track deductions to ensure the doors overlap correctly.

Many customers ask “Why do I need the doors to overlap?”.  In a nutshell, if the doors are made to exactly fit into your space, with no overlaps, you would have difficulty ensuring the doors always line up, exposing the interior.  At Sliding Robes Direct, the recommended overlap for your sliding wardrobe doors is generally the same as the width of the door frame. This provides a seamless and aesthetically pleasing appearance when the doors are closed. You can choose to have more or less overlap to fit different opening sizes, but using the frame width is a good starting point for a clean look.   Just remember, we will make the correct adjustments to the measurement you have supplied.
